The Process
These Kinky Roots are part of ancient forests in Northern Scotland. The forests no longer exist but the roots remain, preserved for thousands of years in the peat and mostly unseen, buried or partially exposed in the soil. See below what goes into making them beautiful, finished pieces for the world to enjoy.
We find the roots… Our whippet, Pebble, helps us out!
Pebble has located a beauty!

2. The roots are gently extracted, so as not to disturb any wildlife and then transported to the south of England.
3. We let the roots dry out for 12-18 months, then we sandblast them smooth any rough edges

4. The roots are now 90% ready. They are named and numbered– this is done by spending time with them and looking at shape, form and colour Root no.1 is called Arboureolis. Other names are: Forget-me-knot, Eternitree, Forestatia Bliss, & Knottalicious.
They then wait for a client!
The starting point for the tables is the size of glass – each coffee table has glass cut to fit perfectly in their desired space. They have toughened glass bases and tops which create a visually stunning appearance as if they are suspended below water. we have commissioned square, rectangular, circular and even ‘cloud’ shaped glass.
Once a client decides on the glass, and has chosen their root, the root is shaped to ensure functionality and beauty. The Kinky Root coffee table takes around 3 weeks to turn around from choosing the root.
With the purchase of the Kinky Root, customers also receive a Certificate of Authenticity and Care Instructions.
